On March 1, 2025, students and the public are invited to celebrate the university’s TRIO Programs with a 5k run/walk and an activity fair.

TRIO Programs are federally-funded outreach programs offering academic, social, cultural, and financial support for first-generation college students and under-served scholars at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and within Lincoln Public Schools.

The activity fair will have games like cornhole and kan jam, two food trucks, henna tattooing, and more than 15 UNL departments and recognized student organizations hosting various games and fun. The fair opens at 9:30 a.m. on the Nebraska Union’s Memorial Plaza

The 5k run/walk begins at 10:30 a.m. from the plaza and follows a sidewalk route through city campus.

Due to casual drop-in structure, the run/walk will be untimed. Individuals can participate at any time between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Registered participants will check in and pick up a course map at the host table on the plaza.

Cost is $10 per person and all proceeds benefit the TRIO programming at UNL.

Individuals should pre-register online by February 24 to be guaranteed an event t-shirt. Same-day in-person registration will be available; however, t-shirts are not guaranteed.

Organizers are expecting 400 people in attendance, including high school TRIO students from Lincoln Public Schools and their family members and friends; UNL students; and the public.
