Thursday, February 9, 2017 UPC graduate assistant earns ACPA award for outstanding service
Kaleb Briscoe, a first-year doctoral student in the Educational Leadership and Higher Education program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will receive the 2017 Commission for Student Involvement – Outstanding Service to the Commission Award from the American College Personnel Association (ACPA).
A native of Woodstock, Georgia and a graduate of Indiana State University, Briscoe previously served as the associate director of student life at the University of Houston-Victoria. Briscoe is now the graduate assistant for the University Program Council and is responsible for overseeing operations and providing leadership development for executive board members.
Briscoe currently serves the association as the vice chair for the Commission for Student Involvement and a member of the Special Projects Team and Convention Common Read Committee. She began her involvement in ACPA in 2013 with the Standing Committee for Graduate Students and New Professionals where she assisted with developing the organization’s strategic plan. She later became the student organization and activities chair with the Commission for Student Involvement and a conference presenter on “Hot Topics in Advising Student Organizations” at the ACPA 2016 Convention in Montréal.
“Serving ACPA is something I enjoy, and encourage every member to do so actively,” said Briscoe. “My involvement with the Commission is more than a professional development opportunity. We are a family and it is a pleasure to be part of a group of leaders who provide resources that can be used by student affairs professionals around the world.”
The Outstanding Service to the Commission Award honors a professional staff member who has given outstanding service to the Commission, upheld professional standards with integrity, and is well respected by colleagues, students and peers. Nominees are evaluated based on their time commitments, energy and level of service to the Commission for Student Involvement and the profession. The award will be presented at the 2017 ACPA Convention in Columbus on March 27.
