COVID-19 has impacted nearly every aspect of this school year, but the University of Nebraska is making sure the pandemic doesn’t disrupt its sustainability efforts.

Representatives of Student Affairs emphasized the importance of community and answered questions from student leaders at a town hall Thursday evening.

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Student Support Services program has received a five-year, $2,952,820 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to continue helping low-income and first-generation undergraduate students earn college degrees.

A new voice has joined the leaders providing guidance into the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s journey toward addressing anti-racism and racial equity. The group, announced in a July 7 message from Chancellor Ronnie Green, has expanded to include Colette M. Yellow Robe, a member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe and academic retention specialist for TRIO Programs.

Kelli King has been named an assistant vice chancellor for student affairs. She starts in the new role on Aug. 1.

The pledge is called the Cornhusker Commitment and it encourages faculty members, staff and students to commit to protecting themselves and the community from the virus.

Aiming to bridge gaps in accessibility, the university’s Services for Students with Disabilities office will begin offering clear face shields made at Nebraska Innovation Studio to colleges and offices across campus.

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln will hold a Dish it Up discussion reflecting on recent nationwide protests in response to the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and Tony McDadte.
