Monday, April 29, 2024 Best spots on campus to cheer the Lincoln Marathon
Sunday, May 5, 2024 is the 47th annual Lincoln Marathon and Half Marathon. The start and finish lines for both races are on UNL's City Campus.
The start is located at the corner of 14th and Vine St. The runners will be divided into several waves and depart in staggered start times from 7 to 7:35 a.m.
Here is a list of campus locations where students can watch and cheer for the runners.
near Harper, Schramm and Smith Halls and The Village
This spot is closest to the starting corrals, where runners line up before the race. Runners will line up along 14th Street, in front of the Campus Rec Center, Cook Pavilion, and the Outdoor Adventures Center.
Expect to see participants arriving as early as 6 a.m. and continue to see them until the last wave starts at 7:35 a.m.
Later in the morning, you can watch the marathoners again at Miles 14 and 26 as they race on Salt Valley Parkway and the bike trail north of Harper Hall.
near Abel and Sandoz Halls, Courtyards, and fraternity and sorority houses (Vine Street from 16th St to 19th Streets)
Along this section, you can cheer the runners in Mile 1 as they race along Vine Street. Runners begin at 14th Street and will travel east to 19th Street, turning south at the Beadle Center.
Expect to see the runners from 7 to 7:45 a.m.
Eastside Suites, University Suites, Knoll Residential Center, and fraternity and sorority houses (along R Street)
The latter part of Mile 1 occurs on R Street, traveling westward from 19th to 16th Street. Cheer the runners along this section from 7 to 8 a.m., before the race route turns at the intersection of 16th & R Streets and heads south towards the State Capitol building.
Mile 13 in Downtown Lincoln and Finish Line area at Memorial Stadium
Both races will end on Stadium Drive, west of Memorial Stadium. You can watch the runners along 10th Street from 8 to 11 a.m. as they head north towards the stadium.
