Thursday, November 10, 2016 My Story as a Cornhusker
My name is Kelsey Koski and I am a junior marketing major. Although my title does not sound like much right now, I have gotten involved in many student-registered organizations on campus; enough to say that I know exactly what I want to do after I graduate. I was first a business administration major, taking accounting after accounting, economics after economics, before I finally asked myself how this would possibly help me in the future.
Ever since high school, I always found myself in clubs or sports, whether it was soccer, basketball, National Honors Society, or Spanish Honors Society. During this time, I also discovered a love for art as I saw the things I could create with charcoal and paper. This passion for design has followed me into college and helped me become a part of something bigger.
My freshman year I joined Scarlet Guard; the largest student-led organization on campus with over 1,400 students. This organization’s goal is to provide students with the ultimate Husker experience through social and professional events, as well as campus traditions. Eventually, my hard work and creativity landed me the role of Vice President of Communications for this organization two years in a row. As Vice President, I am able to create designs for our social media and promotional t-shirts, such as BEAT shirts that thousands of UNL students wear. Promoting our organization, meeting with the Nebraska Alumni Association staff, and attending regional events are just a few of the many things I have experienced during my time here on campus.
Earlier this year I was blessed with an opportunity of a lifetime: a marketing internship with the Athletic Department at Memorial Stadium. I get to be on the ground floor of every major sporting event while promoting student involvement and a great experience for fans. This job has allowed me to meet Husker legends and athletes, and has directed me into my passion of sports marketing. The work that I have done so far with Athletic Department has created experiences that I will never forget. SF27.
While I have only spent three short years at UNL, my time here has been the first step for rest of my life. The people I have met have changed my life with the lessons they have taught me, the experiences we have shared, and their motivation and push for me to do more. When I first came here, I imagined college being long essays for homework, tons of Easy Mac, and long nights at the library. What I found was so much better; I found my story as a Cornhusker. I am lucky to call this campus my home.
