The Division of Student Life not only supports students but also partners with faculty and staff. The Campus Connections Series showcases Student Life expertise and provides practical strategies to address student challenges and promote success.

Each session covers a timely topic and equips faculty and staff with tools they can use in their work with students. Sessions are available in person, via Zoom, or as on-demand recordings. Check back regularly for updated training dates and newly added video sessions.

Addressing Disruptive Behavior in the Classroom

October 3, 2024

In the first session of the series, Student Advocacy & Support and Student Conduct & Community Standards came together to present on student behaviors faculty may encounter in their classrooms and the resources available to address them. Attendees learned how to recognize disruptive or distressing behavior, apply effective in-class interventions, make referrals or consult with support offices, and create an “after action” plan for when the student returns to class.

Navigating the Gray: Supporting Students with Mental Health Struggles

February 19, 2025

This workshop focused on the complex realities faculty and staff face when supporting students with mental health concerns. Presenters from Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) and Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) highlighted trends in student needs, outlined the range of support services available, and offered guidance on making effective referrals. Conversation also touched on common classroom challenges such as attendance, navigating student disclosures, and balancing the additional time demands that often arise.
