Monday, September 6, 2021 Tips to prepare for GAME DAY
Game Day is a Nebraska football tradition and cheering on the Huskers can be a fun group activity. Here are tips to help you have a fun and safe game experience no matter where you plan to cheer on the Huskers.
Know campus expectations and guidelines for the student tailgate space.
- Students are expected to follow all COVID-19 event guidelines, including the face covering policy.
- Students are expected to follow state, federal and university alcohol policies.
- Open flame grills are not permitted at the student tailgate.
- Respect your surroundings. Use trash containers, not the ground. Use bathrooms, not the bushes or the side of a building.
Plan ahead.
- Bring your face covering and a clear bag. If you’re headed into the stadium, remember to bring a face covering and a clear bag for personal items as bags and purses are not permitted. View stadium policies.
- Know which gate is your entrance. Student tickets will be Sections 9 through 13B in the southeast corner of Memorial Stadium. All student seating is general admission. Students will no longer need a wristband. Students will need to enter the gate printed on their ticket (Gate 23 or 24) and sit in the corresponding seating area. All student tickets are delivered to a mobile device to be canned at the gate for admission. You should save your ticket to the Apple Wallet or Google Pay apps before arrival on game day.
- Think about rides ahead of time. Parking can be hectic on game day, so knowing how you’re getting from one place to another is key. Also, if you plan to drink, have your rides planned ahead of time is important for safety. Never drive after drinking. If you get in a pinch, call (402) 475-RIDE.
- Make food and water part of the plan. If it’s a warm day, you’ll want to avoid heatstroke. Don’t let the excitement of the day mean that you haven’t eaten and hydrated yourself.
If you or your friends choose to drink, know how to do so as safely as possible.
- Keep track of your drinks – both in quantity and where it’s been. Plan for how much you’ll drink, and stick to it. Many apps can help you track your drink quantity, Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) and alcohol-related caloric intake. Also, make sure you only accept drinks you’ve poured or bought, and keep them with you.
- Take your time. Don’t consume large amounts of alcohol in a short period of time. One drink or less per hour is preferable.
- Drink water and enjoy snacks. It’s important to rehydrate your body and to consume food to help control your intoxication.
- Know what to do if things get out of hand. If you notice someone who has had too much to drink and needs medical assistance, call for help. Nebraska has a Good Samaritan Law that protects underage drinkers if they call 911 to get medical help for someone in need.
