Monday, May 25, 2020 Student Legal Services can help you with these seven issues this summer
Student Legal Services (SLS) provides free legal advice or court representation in civil and criminal areas of the law to registered UNL students. The legal team consists of three attorneys. The program is offered through the ASUN Student Government and is funded by student fees.

Many times a student's legal question can be handled by consultation; other cases may require negotiations and court appearances. Legal concerns for which Huskers should consult SLS include (but are not limited to):
- Landlord & tenant disputes
- Criminal misdemeanors, e.g., MIP; DUI; maintaining a disorderly house
- Divorces
- Identity theft
- Employment-related issues
- Small claims court
- Traffic offenses and penalties
SLS attorneys will meet with UNL students to discuss legal options and offer advice or referrals on any legal matter. SLS will not appear in court for students outside of Lancaster County (Nebraska) nor in cases such as bankruptcies, contested divorces, felonies, personal injury lawsuits, automobile accidents or real estate transactions. SLS cannot represent students against other students or against the University, but can provide referrals in those cases.
During the Nebraska Union's COVID-19 closure, SLS is providing it's full-range of services to students through online appointments and by phone at 402-472-3350. When the Nebraska Union reopens at a later date, SLS will resume in-person services at its office location (NU room 335).
