Monday, February 13, 2023 Start playing these 3 unique sports at the Rec Centers
Pickleball. Wallyball. Teqball.
These three sports are not only fun and unique - they are also becoming wildly popular.
Here's a little insight into each sport as well as where you can find the gear and courts on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln campus.
Pickleball
The pickleball craze has been going on for a while now and it can be played both indoors and outdoors.
For indoor play, a court is available inside the MAC Gym at the Rec & Wellness Center on East Campus. You can rent the paddles and gear from the front desk in the same facility.
For outdoor play, use one of the numerous tennis courts dotted around campus.
Don’t know how to play? Check out the USA Pickleball website for basic rules, the history of the sport and more.
Wallyball
This sport is very similar to volleyball yet with a few key differences. Wallyball is played on a racquetball or squash court and players are allowed to utilize the walls to help get the ball over the net.
At UNL, wallyball can be played inside the Campus Rec Center on City Campus. Check out a volleyball for free at the front desk (or bring your own) and request the rec staff to set up the net for you inside one of the racquetball courts.
For more information on how to play Wallyball check out the American Wallyball Association’s website for the rules of play.
Teqball
Teqball is a unique sport that mixes ping pong with soccer. It is played on a special curved table. It can be played as singles or doubles; the winner is determined by a best-of-three matches.
Players can use any part of their body except their arms or hands and are not allowed to touch the table. Teqball has some interesting rules including one that states the player can’t hit the ball with the same part of their body twice.
Teqball tables are located inside the Campus Rec Center on City Campus. Check out a ball from the front desk or bring your own size 5 soccer ball to play.
