Finally! An activity where Huskers can find success from the comfort of their own bed.

Students are invited to sign up for Campus Recreation's three-week Sleep Challenge that is featuring weekly challenges, newsletters and prizes to improve their sleeping habits and put them back in charge of their sleep schedule.

The 3-week challenge will officially begin on March 1, 2021 yet prospective participants are required to register by Feb. 26.

Each week, a newsletter will come out filled with essential information on sleep and how important it is. The themes include: the importance of sleep, sleep hygiene, and tips for better sleep habits. Jennifer Beres, the wellness services graduate assistant with Campus Rec, wants students to realize the value of proper sleep.

"You cannot 'make up' for a lack of sleep by sleeping extra on the weekends. Sleep is something our bodies need consistently." said Beres, "Adequate sleep is essential for brain functioning and memory formation."

Lack of sleep can have a negative impact on the ability to succeed with classes. With the challenge, Huskers will find out how to improve your quality and quantity of sleep.

Weekly challenges allow participants to reflect on their own sleep habits and routines, and discover how different factors can affect sleep and energy levels. The challenges focus on current sleep habits and energy levels, pre-bedtime routine and environment, and introduce new types of activities before bed to promote relaxation, such as yoga or meditation.

Participants will also receive goal sheets each week to reflect and develop routines based on what is learned and observed; there will also be information about sleep assessments and the typical sleep cycle, and about SMART goals for overall wellness.

Upon completion of all goal-tracking journals and challenges, each participant will receive a free sleep mask.

Register here to participate in the Sleep Challenge.
