Enjoy the comforts of 4-legged furry companions at the Big Red Pawp-Up events on Sept 15 & 16, 2022.

We're now three weeks into the semester and you're possibly still settling in and finding your footing. It's a common stage for most Huskers, so you're not alone.

Soon the first set of exams and projects will be here. To prepare for this upcoming period, give attention to your own self-care and personal well-being. Here are seven on-campus activities that will help you relax and re-focus your energy.



Growing Your Identity

September 14  |  6 to 7:30 p.m.  |  Nebraska Union, Regency Suite

Mindfully set goals and intentions for the semester with the guidance of the staff from the Women's Center. While supplies last, enjoy free plants and crafts, too!

Big Red Pawp-Ups

Two chances:

  • September 15  |  11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  |  Nebraska Union, Memorial Plaza
  • September 16  |  9 to 11 a.m.  |  Nebraska East Union

Pet a dog and de-stress! Research studies have shown that exposure to therapy dogs on college campuses reduces stress and anxiety for students.

For two hours each on the City and East Campuses, students, staff and faculty can enjoy the casual and happy company of a variety of furry 4-legged companions from Uplifting Paws Therapy Dogs.

Unable to attend? This is a new monthly activity at UNL, so you can look forward to catching the dogs again when they return to campus in October and each month after.

CookWell Class: Pick Your Produce

September 15  |  5:30 to 7 p.m.  |  Rec & Wellness Center, Wellness Kitchen

Learn to create a tasty meal using local and sustainable seasonal fruits, vegetables and herbs that are easy to find at any farmers’ market. Recipes that participants will prepare are Garlic Dipping Sauce; Margherita-style Spaghetti Squash; and Watermelon and Spring Greens Salad.

Cost is $10 per person and pre-registration is required. Sign up online before midnight Sept. 12.

Pop-In Well-being

September 16  |  2 to 4 p.m.  |  Nebraska East Union, Garden Room (2nd Floor)

Find a listening ear while purposefully facilitating your own stress relief during a relaxing mindfulness activity - in this case, by creating an individualized Zen Garden. Peers will be present to listen and talk with you and can connect you with on- and off-campus resources to further your well-being journey.

This is a free and casual drop-in activity. Come for a few minutes, stay for the full two hours or anything in between that fits your needs.

Basics Yoga

September 16  |  5:30 p.m.  |  Campus Rec Center, Fitness Room

Explore yoga as both an exercise and calming practice in your life. This beginner-level class will start you on the way to participating regularly. Yogis of all levels are welcome.

This activity is free but space is limited. Secure your spot by preregistering with the Mindbody app or online.

Pop-In Well-being

It's a secnd pop-in event with a new mindfulness activity...a coloring book focused on the10 Well-being Dimensions. Find a listening ear while purposefully facilitating your own stress relief during a relaxing mindfulness activity. Peers will be present to listen and talk with you and can connect you with on- and off-campus resources to further your well-being journey.
