Monday, June 12, 2017 LGBTQA+ Resource Center accepts ACPA award
The LGBTQA+ Resource Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln recently accepted the Commitment to Social Justice Education award from the ACPA, an international organization for college student educators.
Selected by the ACPA Commission for Social Justice Educators, this award honors a department, campus, ACPA committee or commission that demonstrates a commitment to social justice education and development, training or programming.
Nebraska faculty member Stephanie Bondi nominated the LGBTQA+ Resource Center for this honor.
"They do a tremendous amount of programming, advocacy, and student/staff support on campus with a very tiny staff and budget," said Bondi. "Their events, programming, university policy advocacy and thought frameworks address a number of equity issues, not just those about sexuality and gender identity."
"The office and the staff are a gift to the university. They are making positive social change to better lives in the campus community, Lincoln, and statewide."
This is the second time the center has been recognized by the ACPA. Last year, Pat Tetreault, director of the LGBTQA+ Resource Center, received the Coalition for LGBT Awareness Public Service Award.
