Monday, December 12, 2016 Late Night Lounge Offers Study Space and Evening Activities
From Dec. 5 to Dec. 8, students flocked to the OASIS Lounge and Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center for Late Night Lounge, traditionally held the week prior to finals. Hosted by the Office of Academic Success and Intercultural Services (OASIS) and the OASIS Student Advisory Board, Late Night Lounge provided students with a place to de-stress or a destination to study for upcoming finals. Rooms on the second floor were reserved for students who needed to quiet space to study away.
“OASIS hosts Late Night Lounge because we care about the well-being of our students,” said Carnetta Griffin, the graduate assistant for the OASIS events team. “We want them to thrive in their academics, and in order to do that, we understand that there must be some self-care first.”
The theme for Late Night Lounge was “Showcase Your Talents” and each evening of Late Night Lounge had a different associated activity. On Monday, students participated in craft night. Tuesday night was baking competition, in which students created their own type of muffin using a variety of mix-in ingredients. Wednesday's main event was karaoke, and a movie screening of "The Heat" took place Thursday. Food was provided each night, as well.
OASIS has hosted Late Night Lounge annually since the opening of the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center in 2010. The most popular activities continue to be craft night and movie night.
“We hope students are able to relax, get some food, re-energize and get back to studying to be the awesome students we know they are,” said Griffin.
