Effective May 12, the on-campus Husker Pantry reopened its doors to University of Nebraska-Lincoln students for in-person visits to receive food, personal hygiene items, school supplies and cleaning products.

When campus closed at the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the pantry shuttered its door for a few months. Limited operations resumed in July 2020 with a weekly online-order process and no in-person visits. Volunteers were able to continue meeting the Husker students’ basic needs for meals and household items, with curbside pick-up occurring only on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

With the latest re-opening, students can visit the pantry – located on the University Health Center’s first floor - at their leisure and opt for a wider range of items of their own choosing. The online ordering option is being discontinued.

A few additional notes:

  • The pantry space is limited to two shoppers at a time.
  • Huskers should bring their own backpack, shopping bag or box to carry their items, as these are not provided by the pantry.
  • Summer hours may be limited each week. Check the website prior to visiting for the latest updates. Hours will expand further for fall semester.

Last summer, Husker Pantry distributed close to 6,000 items every month to Nebraska students. The pantry relies on donations to keep the shelves stocked so students do not suffer from hunger. 100% of donations benefit UNL students.

Individuals wanting to donate items can purchase online via the pantry’s Amazon Marketplace wishlist and the items are shipped directly to the pantry. Another option is drop off locally-purchased items at one of 18 collection bins located on City and East Campuses.
