August is National Black Business Month. Whether you’re looking for a bite to eat, a place to get your hair done, or a way to give back to the community, show your support for these Black-owned businesses in Lincoln.

Grab a bite to eat

Flydogz -- If you're looking to upgrade your hotdog game, look no further than Flydogz, located just west of 33rd and O St and only a 5-minute drive from campus. Choose from a variety of premium Flydogz or build your own with 20+ toppings to fly with.

 Mary Ellen's – You may have seen Mary Ellen’s food truck parked on campus this past fall. Serving up dishes like baby back ribs, pulled pork, collard greens, and cornbread, Mary Ellen’s is food for the soul. Follow them on Facebook to see when and where you can pick up a plate.

Sturr 22 Lounge -- Located at 33rd and South, this vibrant lounge is just a 9-minute drive from campus and offers a unique menu of dishes incorporating both Caribbean and West African flavors.

Juju's Vegan Cajun and Creole Cuisine -- If you’re looking for a plant-based lunch, Chef Derick “Juju” shares his passion for using whole foods and converting classic New Orleans dishes into authentic vegan cuisine. Located just south of downtown, Juju’s is just a 6-minute drive from campus.

Get a haircut

Berks Barber Shop & Tattoo Studio: Co-owned by brothers Cory and Nate Berks, this group of master barbers specializes in hair, art, designs, fades, crispy lines and tapers. Located off of 48th and Vine, it’s just a 9-minute drive from campus.

Roots Collective: Offering cuts, coloring, waxing and texturing, this full-service salon located in downtown Lincoln strives to support a diverse community by forming a creative space where art, education, and kindness flows.

Give Back

Malone Center: Malone is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating unity and prosperity throughout Lincoln, Nebraska while honoring African American heritage. Donate to support inclusive, social, cultural, educational, employment, and welfare services.

Art Bus LNK: As Lincoln’s first mobile art studio, Art Bus LNK provides a free opportunity for youth to create & heal through art. Donations go toward stocking the bus with art supplies and maintenance.
