Sunday, January 17, 2021 CHECKLIST: How to sign up for your COVID-19 saliva test
In order to begin the spring semester safely, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is implementing new COVID-19 testing protocols. As the Chancellor articulated on January 11, your compliance and participation are crucial to keeping the campus and the Lincoln community safe.
Through the course of your daily activities on campus, you’ll now be expected to show your status card to wellness attendants. Whether attending class, checking out equipment, visiting a dining hall or participating in a campus event, you’ll need to plan to keep your mobile device or print status card handy.
The following checklist will help you obtain your status card so you can return to your academic studies and campus life.
STEP 1 – Accept the Spring 2021 Cornhusker Commitment in MyRED
As members of the UNL community, students are responsible for knowing, understanding and following the university’s expectations, protocols, procedures, and requirements related to COVID-19 health and safety mitigation measures — including testing, contact tracing, wearing face coverings and following local ordinances and/or campus event policies. Those who fail to comply may face disciplinary action.
STEP 2 – Complete the Spring 2021 COVID-19 Training
This 10-minute training will cover critical information like symptoms, testing, contact tracing, quarantine and isolation, and student behavioral expectations so you know what to expect on campus this spring.
STEP 3 – Download the Safer Community App
The app is where you’ll schedule saliva testing, view test results and get your status card for entrance into buildings and campus events.
If you don’t have a smartphone, you can schedule your tests online and print passes from kiosks in the 17th & R St. parking garage on City Campus or the East Campus Service Building.
STEP 4 – Schedule Your Re-entry Saliva Test
All students enrolled in in-person courses and using in-person services must participate in testing. The initial test will take place between January 19-24 and your app will indicate when additional testing should take place.
To schedule, open the Safer Community app and select “Find test locations.” You’ll be able to select a testing location, date and time.
Exemptions from testing are available to students enrolled solely in online or remote courses, those who have tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 90 days, medical exemption and where it may prove an especially burdensome hardship. Learn more.
The Safer Community app will notify you of your test results, likely within 24 hours. During the initial testing period, you’ll need to quarantine until you have an ‘Access Granted’ status, produced by a negative test result or approved exemption.
